The SMSC membership categories and fees (excluding HST) for 2013 are shown in the tables and described in the text below.
Regular Members:
The SMSC Regular membership is tailored to those who desire full access to both the social and water based aspects of SMSC. This permits participation in all land based events such as TGIF's and social functions, plus access to waterside activities including Marina & Mooring field use, tender storage, participation in racing, regatta and cruising events. Regular Members are permitted to vote at SMSC member meetings and make use of all SMSC facilities or programs in accordance with SMSC Bylaws and policies. Dependent children within Family Memberships are eligible for discounts and early registration within the Junior Sail program.
Available Classes:
- Family** – A Family Membership.
- Single – An Individual Membership when the individual is 25-59 years of age.
- Intermediate – An Individual Membership when the individual is 19-24 years of age.
- Junior – An Individual Membership when the individual is less than 19 years of age.
Membership Benefits:
- Access to all club facilities including boat launch, tender storage, marina & mooring field.
- Ability to purchase drinks at club bar.
- Access to all club social functions at the members rate schedule.
- Granted guest sign-in privileges in accordance with SMSC club liquor license.
- Ability to rent marina slips with or without preferential reserved status.
- Ability to rent moorings at members rates or participate in mooring maintenance program if owning a private mooring.
- Access to discounted club facility rental rates.
- Permitted to participate in SMSC racing & regattas, as an entrant and as the person-in-charge under the racing rules of sailing.
- Eligible to enter in the races & regattas of clubs that restrict entry to members of CYA/NSYA recognized yacht clubs.
- 25% discount for your children in our youth Learn to Sail programs (Family Membership only)
- Access to SMSC membership meetings as a voting member.
Social Members:
Designed for those members who are not active on the water, but who desire to enjoy the many social aspects of SMSC facilities and membership. It is ideal for those who wish to partake in club social life without a large financial commitment, or who are curious about the wonders of St. Margaret's Bay and want to take a "baby-step" before full membership. The SMSC Social membership class is designed with those ideals in mind, and provides for full membership access & discounts for club social functions, ability to crew on members boats, priority access to Junior Sail registration, no bond fee, and a prepaid Goods & Services tab.

- Social Single – A Social Individual Membership
Membership Benefits:
- Regular member access to all club facilities excluding marina & mooring field.
- Ability to purchase drinks at club bar.
- Access to all club social functions at the members rate schedule.

- 10% discount for your children in our youth Learn to Sail programs (Social Family Membership only)
- A time-limited pre-paid "Goods & Services Credit" that may be used for events, food and drinks consumed at SMSC within the membership year.
- Permitted to participate in SMSC racing, but not as an entrant and not as the person-in-charge under the racing rules of sailing.
- Eligible for Junior Sail early registration, ahead of general public but after Regular members, but no discounts available for Junior Sail courses.
- Access to discounted club facility rental rates.
- Access to SMSC membership meetings as a non-voting member.
- Social Membership may be converted to Regular membership class upon payment of membership fee difference, excluding Goods and Services Credit, and purchase of Bond.
Extraordinary Members:
- Member-at-Sea – A member who is resident outside of Nova Scotia for more than one year, who wishes to be maintained on the Registry of Members, and is not to make any use of SMSC facilities or programs other than electronic services (eg. Website) or mailed items during the period of absence.
- Honourary – A member without annual membership fees, as granted by the Board of Directors.

*HST not included - includes a 10% discount that existing members enjoy for paying by April 15, 2013. All but the newest Senior members receive additional discounts - these will be included on the renewal invoice that you will receive in February or March of 2013.
** A Family is defined as:
- two individual persons who live together as partners and any dependent children under 25 or
- an individual person and any dependent children under 25
*** A 30-year bond purchase of $500 (at zero interest) is required for all new members, except Social Family and Social Single, Intermediate (except when the oldest individual is under 30 as of January 1, 2012), and Junior. The bond purchase can be deferred over three years for new members. See details on the membership application form.
**** This credit can be used for social event fees and food and beverage purchases at the SMSC bar. In particular, it cannot be used for Junior Sail fees, waterfront fees, or facility rental fees. Its value expires without a refund of any balance on March 31, 2014.
