St. Margaret's Annual Keelboat Regatta Kicks off on August 6 PDF Print E-mail

The ever-popular St. Margaret's Annual Keelboat Regatta, known as SMAKR, kicks off on August 6th at St. Margaret's Sailing Club (SMSC). Begun more than a dozen years ago, the event offers a little bit of rivalry, a lot of food, and a little bit of socializing.

This annual highlight of SMSC calendar draws upward of two dozen competitors. Almost a third of the fleet at the weekend regatta are visitors from other clubs in the area, such as Hubbards, Chester, Armdale, RNSYC and the Waeg.

The event unofficially begins at SMSC, 1900-2130 pm, on August 6th, with a TGIF event hosted by the SMSC senior fleet—meaning they will bring some snacks, and bar staff are primed.

SMAKR is an extension of the races held weekly at the club on Wednesday evenings in the summer, and Sunday afternoons in the fall. SMSC has other keelboat races throughout the season—Ladies Cup, Father’s Day Race and the Ocean Race, for example—as well as the annual Bay Wind Regatta, for dinghies, and learn-to-sail programs for adults and juniors. Add in the Chowder Fest, Fish Fry, Commodore’s Dinner, Casino Night and other social events, and your dance card is full.

SMAKR participants can register Friday night during the TGIF, or Saturday morning, when the games officially begin. Here’s the schedule:
