Parents are as important as their children in SMSC’s Learn to Sail Program. As a parent, you want your child to have a great learning experience this summer. You also want him/her to have fun, practice responsibility, learn technique and safety skills and develop an abiding enthusiasm for sailing. Daily Schedule0830 - 0900 Drop Off What you need to bring:
Having appropriate clothing is very important the higher the level your sailing gets. Especially for our older Bronze sailors who will be consistently sailing outside into the larger Bay, dressing in layers is crucial. Especially with the rapidly changing Nova Scotia Weather having the right clothes for every situation is very important. Have a warm base layer with a fabric that will lift moisture off the skin or a wet suit. Next have a light jacket or splash guard on top, something that your son or daughter could easily put on or take off. Preferably this top layer should be water and wind proof. Avoid wearing cotton or denim as these fabrics will absorb cold water and cause the sailor to have constant chills for the remainder of the day. Our instructors will sit down and talk with our sailors about how to properly dress for every occasion. However, take the time to talk with your young sailor how to dress in layers and how to be prepared!
