Bill Bean and his committee supported by a large team of volunteers pulled off a fantastic St Margaret Annual Keelboat Regatta (SMAKR) on the weekend of August 7-9. They even managed to arrange for the best weekend of the summer, weather-wise (perhaps they knew we had just installed a new weather station at the club!).

Strong unusual northwest winds on Saturday meant for interesting racing. On Sunday, the wind started light and finicky out of the west-southwest, but eventually settled into healthy south winds and a fast beam reach into the club finish.

In all, 24 boats participated in three classes: Spinnaker A, Spinnaker B, and Cruising Class.

Complete results can be found on the SMAKR page. A well-attended awards ceremony handed out prizes and congratulations to the top three winners in each class, who were:

A Class

1st - Star Finder (Kevin Bezanson - CBYA)
2nd - Zimaz (Iain Tullock - Hubbards YC)
3rd - Pain Killer (Paul Filbee-Dexter - SMSC)

B Class

1st - Bad Daddy (Scott Lorette - RNSYS)
2nd - Warrior (Paul Dennis - SMSC)
3rd - Panacea (Bill Bean - SMSC)

Cruising Class

1st - Mental Floss (Mike Amirault - SMSC)
2nd - Corkscrew (Darin Sweet - RNSYS)
3rd - Vela (Dave Lane - SMSC)
