At the Sport Nova Scotia annual awards gala held on Saturday, June 6th, 2010 SMSC was awarded the 2010 RICOH Association of the Year. See this Sport Nova Scotia press release for details. The award was accepted by Wayne Trowse, Commodore. The nomination citation is below: This club hosted the 2009 Nautel Laser World Championships, the largest competitive sailing event in Canadian history, with 500 athletes – and only 2.5 staff. In preparation for the event the club built a new marina, breakwater and Learn to Sail building, which will all serve to further sailing in NS. The event showcased the province as one of the premier sailing locations in the world. Big regattas are nothing new to St. Margaret Sailing Club as the Club has hosted many provincial and national championships including the very popular Bay Wind Regatta every July for youth sailors. Also nominated for the award were the Dartmouth Ringette Association and Special Olympics Nova Scotia. |
