Skippers and crews: Mark your calendars for this year’s St. Margaret’s Annual Keelboat Regatta, also known as SMAKR, running August 5-7. Don’t miss the flagship race of your sailing club, with two days of friendly rivalry on the waters of our beautiful bay. Also note that this event is open to members of other sailing clubs — what a great way to showcase the bay. Come to the club Friday night for a TGIF; enjoy appetizers, buy a competitor a drink (or not), and register for the event. You can also register Saturday morning — when you come for Ed Bottrell’s Best Breakfast Deal in the Bay. (Who knows, maybe the Food Network will be on hand to see how it’s done.) The third way to register is online. The form to do this should be operational by the end of June. Your SMAKR committee is still working on event details, but wanted to make sure you have the dates booked! Here’s how it generally works: There’s a skipper’s meeting at 10:30 am Saturday, and the warning signal for the first class to set off is at noon. We can’t tell you what happens on the water, but by 1600 most sailors are ensconced back at the club, rehashing the race while enjoying Happy Hour. There’s a barbeque Sat night—more time to rehash the race, and break bread with rivals. Come back Sunday morning once again for Ed’s famous—but optional—brekkie, building up your carbs, then it’s off on another race course set for the conditions of the day. The two days’ results will be tallied to determine the winners in all classes. New this year!
Not new this year!
Please check the SMAKR page online for updates. Any questions? Please contact me: 902-820-2305 or e-mail heatherwhite09 at gmail dot com. I may not know the answer but can point you in the direction of someone who does. Heather White PS: Please also get in touch if you know of a company that might like to be a sponsor in some way. After all, we are a niche group of desirable consumers (despite the fact that any disposable income may have already gone into the boat.) Thanks |
